NSB Anbud AS is a Norwegian railway company that operates the passenger train service on Gjøvikbanen in Norway. The company, a subsidiary of the state owned Norges Statsbaner, was created to compete for the public tender bid for a ten-year public service obligation (PSO) contract with the Norwegian Ministry of Transport and Communications on Gjøvikbanen, which the company successfully won.
The company operates two separate services on Gjøvikbanen. Skøyen - Jaren is part of the commuter train service provided around Oslo, while Oslo S - Gjøvik is a regional service. Though they share the same track to Jaren, the trains to Gjøvik don't have as many stops on the stretch, though they continue on to Gjøvik.
The company operates nine BM69 electric multiple units[1], which were upgraded for NOK 40 million in 2006[2]. These were previously used on commuter train services around Oslo.
[edit] History
The conservative-liberal government (2001-2005) wanted to deregulate the Norwegian railway sector, and decided to try to transfer the operations on three railways, Gjøvikbanen, Sørlandsbanen and Bergensbanen, to PSO contracts.[3] The first contract was awarded in 2005 for Gjøvikbanen to NSB Anbud, who beat Connex and Danske Statsbaner. But a government change in 2005 to the socialist government changed policy and discontinued the PSO contracting, as the government wanted to continue with NSB operating the subsidised railway network. [4] NSB took over operations on Gjøvikbanen on June 11, 2006 on a ten year contract.
