[edit] RDC enlarges Metro Cebu
Sun.Star Cebu October 8, 2005
"Development planners expanded the definition of Metro Cebu to include the towns of San Fernando and Carcar in the south and Danao City in the north.
This way, the Regional Development Council (RDC) 7 hopes to improve the local governments’ capability to address traffic congestion, solid waste management and threats to peace and order.
“We can come together and discuss projects. These projects can be realistically planned and implemented with the active cooperation of all the local government units (LGUs),” said Cebu Gov. Gwendolyn Garcia during the RDC full council meeting yesterday.

Enlarge metro for mass transit: plan Sun.Star Cebu By Charmaine Y. Rodriguez Sun.Star Staff Reporter October 21, 2004
DANAO City and the towns of Carcar and San Fernando will be added to Metro Cebu to make the introduction of a mass transit system viable.
The mass transit system is one of the priority programs in the Regional Development Plan for 2005 to 2010, said National Economic and Development Authority (Neda) 7 Director Romeo Escandor.
The project promotes the growth of Metro Cebu, which supports the national policy on “national dispersion through regional concentration,” a Neda 7 report stated.
In the Regional Spatial Development Strategy, the development of Metro Cebu is “foreseen to propel the rapid growth of the region and its provinces.”
President Arroyo’s 10-point agenda includes the decentralization of progress through improvements in transportation.
[edit] Question
---Just a question or two: What's the basis for the list of the member cities and municipalities? Was there an organization in charge of designating officially what towns are or will be included as part of Metro Cebu? The article lacks information in this area. Another thing is the History section. The Creation subsection needs an information on the growth of the metro since traditionally and historically, (and on most people's mind especially those outside the region) Metro Cebu refers only to the area consisting of the cities of Cebu, Mandaue and Lapu-Lapu. Talisay maybe is a fresh addition (as stated in the Cebu City article). Is the present composition really legally defined by the Metropolitan Cebu Development Council? Claiming Metro Cebu as "the largest metropolis in terms of land area" in the Philippines maybe is taking it too far. Let's just be conservative with the information presentation. Information consistency of is of utmost importance since this article will have repercussions everywhere. This link gives further insights on the issue http://www3.pids.gov.ph/ris/dps/pidsdps9815.pdf--Jordz 12:28, 24 May 2006 (UTC)
- Answers for Metro Cebu;s definition by MCDC are available now at the current page of Metro Cebu. Metro Cebu's land area (998.0 km²) is bigger than Metro Manila's land area (636 km²) thus, naming it the largest metropolis in the Philippines is correct.
[edit] Districts
Does anyone know the number of districts in Metro Cebu?
[edit] Metro Cebu Districts
Metro Cebu covers 4-5 congressional districts:
Cebu City --> two districts
Mandaue, Lapu-Lapu, Consolacion, Cordova --> 6th district of Cebu province
(Danao City), Compostela, Liloan, plus 8 more municipalities --> 5th district (minor part)
Talisay City, Minglanilla, Naga, (San Fernando), (Carcar), plus one more municipality --> 1st district (major part)
[edit] 2005 pop
the 814,296 population for Cebu City is an updated one for 2005 and not 2000 census. Please correct. thanks. :)
- Most of the other cities/municipalities were using 2000 populations. We should stick to 2000 populations unless a newer, official estimate for all the other units becomes available. Polaron | Talk 13:30, 1 June 2006 (UTC)
