Krezip is a Dutch band from Tilburg. Active members are singer and pianist Jacqueline Govaert, her sister Anne Govaert on guitar, Annelies Kuijsters playing keyboards, and Joost van Haaren on the bass guitar. In 2004 guitar player Thomas Holthuis was replaced by JanPeter Hoekstra and drummer Thijs Romeijn by Bram van den Berg.

Krezip started as a four-member school band during 1997, in Tilburg, The Netherlands. A year later a new drummer was added. During 1998 Krezip was an act at many festivals throughout the country, such as Festival Mundial, Noorderslag, and Lowlands. Studies and age became a sticking point to accept big offers in the music world. The first official sign of their existence came in 1999, when the band released a demo album on their own label called "Run Around". Big success however didn't materialize until 2000.
The meaning of the name 'Krezip' is rather unclear. Most likely, this name has been chosen as an anagram for 'perzik', the Dutch word for peach, since the band members have continually been eating peaches during their rehearsals.
Jacqueline Govaert has written all of Krezip's songs. She started writing music when she was 12 years old. She states that she can write the best when she doesn't understand anything of the world.[1]

In 2000 Krezip signed with Warner Music. Their first single "Won't Cry" did little to advance their career. The second single, "I Would Stay", was more successful. The video for the song and the sound recording took place during Pinkpop, a Dutch festival. The song became a #1 hit in Belgium and #2 in the Netherlands. It was the #1 song of 2000 in Belgium.[2]. The album, "Nothing Less" debuted at #1 in both the Netherlands and Belgium, where in the Netherlands it went 3x platinum (210,000 copies sold with a total of 250,000 albums sold[3]). The two other singles from the album, "All Unsaid" and "Everything And More", failed to chart. Krezip received a 2001 Edison Award (the Dutch Grammy Awards).

In 2002 a third album was released, titled Days Like This, even though the band had trouble writing it. Jacqueline said in interview that she had to overcome writers block to pen new songs. Never less the album debuted at #3 in the Dutch Album Top 100 and stayed on the chart for 28 weeks. Although the album couldn't compete with previous releases, the singles "You Can Say" (#18), "Promise" (#16), and "Mine", were more successful. The album was certificated Gold (35,000 copies sold) in late 2002.
A club tour supported the album through The Netherlands. A performance for The Box program Pure was recorded live and brought out on DVD and CD called "That'll Be Unplugged". Krezip also spent time promoting the album in Germany. They did two tours through the country and they were the supporting act for Bon Jovi in the Netherlands. They also were the supporting act for Sheryl Crow during her tour through Germany and France.

During the writing for their new album, Krezip was released from their record label. Warner Music forced Warner Music Benelux to drop all of their national artists, including Krezip. After losing their record deal many other music labels offered to sign the band, this made Krezip re-orientate what they wanted from their music. Eventually the band chose Sony BMG. In a speech during the 2004 TMF Awards, Krezip thanked their old label for everything that they had done.
On May 9, 2005 Krezip brought out the album What Are You Waiting For?. Krezip called in the help of American producing couple Wizardz of Oz, and wrote and recorded it in Los Angeles. The album debuted at #1 in the Dutch Album Top 100 and stayed in the chart for 27 weeks. Three singles were released with "Out Of My Bed" as the first. It peaked at #9, making it Krezip's second top 10 hit since "I Would Stay" (2000). Two other singles, "Don't Crush Me" (#22) and the ballad "I Apologize" (#30), failed to make it into the top 20.
In the beginning of 2005 Krezip traveled to Ethiopia on request of the charity foundation Novib for an education campaign. The journey was recorded and shown on the Dutch version of MTV. The band also went on tour through Benelux, selling out 15 big venues.
The song "Same Mistake" was used in the Dutch movie Schnitzel Paradise (Het Schnitzelparadijs), which became a huge hit in the Netherlands.

In 2006, Jacqueline joined several artists in the Netherlands to record the anthem for the 2006 TMF Awards. The song was performed live during the award show. The single became available for download to support the foundation Dance 4 Life. The song peaked at #4 on downloads alone.
On May 11, 2007 Krezip released the album "Plug It In". The album was recorded in two weeks, and the band has stated that it has more of a dance sound then previous efforts. On February 6, 2007 a Dutch radio station (3FM) played a rough version of the first single, "Plug It In & Turn Me On".[4]. The song officially debuted in April 2007 at the #39 spot on the Dutch Top 40. To promote the new album, Krezip has done a promotional tour through the Netherlands.[5]

On August 17, 2007 Jacqueline announced on Giel Beelen's radio show that Krezip will give a special concert on December 29, 2007 in the HMH to celebrate their tenth anniversary.
