[edit] Welcome and thanks!

Welcome, J.P.Lon!
Wilkommen! Welkom! Bienvenue! Benvenuti! ようこそ! Välkommen! Witamy! Bem-vindo(a)! ¡Bienvenido! Добро пожаловать! 欢迎!

Hello, J.P.Lon, and welcome to Wikipedia!

My name is Will, a.k.a. Willscrlt, one of the many editors here at Wikipedia. Thank you for your contributions, and I hope you like the place and decide to stay. Here are a few good links you might find helpful:

The five pillars of Wikipedia   Tutorial   How to edit a page
How to write a great article   Help pages   Manual of Style
Request "adoption" by an experienced editor   Fun stuff...

Some other hints and tips:

  • I see you have already learned how to customize your userpage; good work! If you haven't already, you might wish to tell us more about yourself in the new user log.
  • Talk pages, such as yours, which you are viewing now, are the way that Wikipedians communicate and leave messages or feedback for one another. All information placed on a talk page is publicly viewable, permanently archived, and usable by anyone for any purpose. It is a very bad idea to publish secure information or anything you wish to keep private on a talk page, or anywhere else in Wikipedia, because of the openness of the system.
  • When using talk pages, please sign your name at the end of your messages by typing four tildes (~~~~). This will automatically produce your username and the date.

If you need help, check out Wikipedia:Where to ask a question, ask me on my talk page, or type {{helpme}} here on your talk page and someone will show up shortly to answer your questions. Another option is to visit the Wikipedia Boot Camp or the Adopt-a-User center, where experienced Wikipedians can answer any questions you have.

I'm looking forward to seeing your future contributions, J.P.Lon!

I really appreciate what you did to improve the punch article. It's greatly improved now. If you haven't already done so, please consider joining the Mixed Drinks and/or Soft Drinks WikiProjects. We would love to have you as an active participant, working with the rest of us to improve other related articles. Thanks again!

[edit] 2007 UK Letterbombs

Hi J.P.Lon, welcome to Wikipedia. I see that you have just created the article 2007 UK Letterbombs. Our naming conventions state that country names should be written in full. In the case of the UK, this is "United Kingdom". I therefore suggest moving the article to 2007 United Kingdom letter bombs. Can you agree with this? If you have any questions on how to do this, or on anything else, feel free to contact me on my user talk page. AecisBrievenbus 11:58, 7 February 2007 (UTC)

Now moved to 2007 United Kingdom Letterbombs. J.P.Lon 13:38, 7 February 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Ally Pally

I have reverted your edit of the page today, which enlarged your panoramic view from the Palace (good picture by the way!). The reason for reerting it was that the thumbnail was better in the context of the article as a) you can see the whole image in the thumbnail, and b) people on slow connections are not forced to download a relatively large image file. I think leaving the thumbnail is better, as it does not overwhelm the surrounding article - seeWikipedia:Images#Image_choice_and_placement Wikipedia:Picture_tutorial#Resizing. If you disagree, it's probably better to try and get some consensus on the talk page first before placing the large image on the page. I notice you've undone my reversion already before I could finish this note. I will undo that, not out of spite, but purely because I didn't get the chance to tell you why before. [edit] Opaque

They don't look transparent to me. On the blue background of monobook they should have a blue background, yet they are white. --MECUtalk 01:26, 13 March 2007 (UTC)

Ok. I trust you. I'm new to the image thing in this aspect. You can just remove the opaque tag with no harm. --MECUtalk 01:36, 13 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] CAMRA userbox

I have removed the fair use image from your CAMRA userbox. - PatricknoddyTALK (reply here)|HISTORY 13:26, 22 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] DYK

Regarding this edit you made to the DYK archive, please note that this page is only for facts which have appeared in the Did you know section of the Main Page. If you would like to nominate articles for appearance, please read the rules on the DYK page and make your nominations at Template talk:Did you know. Thanks. howcheng {chat} 16:41, 14 June 2007 (UTC)

Updated DYK query On 6 July 2007, Did you know? was updated with a fact from the article Pub Design Awards, which you created or substantially expanded. If you know of another interesting fact from a recently created article, then please suggest it on the Did you know? talk page.

[edit] Image:SEA-ME-WE-4-Route.png

Do you have a vectorised version of this image? The numbering system used in the image seems to be the reverse of the designated start and finish of the cable (i.e. Singapore to India is "Segment 1", the Mediterranean is "Segment 4"): shouldn't the numbers run from 1 at Singapore to 16 in Marseilles? Did you have a particular reason for numbering it in that direction? Thanks, Oldak Quill 10:16, 1 February 2008 (UTC)

Thank you for your response. Good luck if you give it a go. --Oldak Quill 20:42, 1 February 2008 (UTC)

Speaking of these images, which are really really amazing, I have found an error :( The map of the EAC depicts point 3. as Shanghai when it is actually Qingdao http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/EAC_%28cable_system%29 I think... I do hope I'm mistaken. I really hate to bring this to your attention because you've done such and amazing job and I am very grateful to you for livening up these otherwise rather mundane articles on cables. Thank you very much :) 122.57.86.211 (talk) 11:42, 3 February 2008 (UTC) (Furius on Wikipedia)

[edit] Error in outline map

I hate to tell you another bad news about your picture but the blank map with outline of countries you used has an error in it. It still has the border between former West and East Germany that re-united in 1990. The outlines of countries of former Yugoslavia seem to be up-to-date, including the newly (2008) independent Kosovo. Maybe you'd like to get in touch with the author of the original map and let him know about this error? 24.81.130.107 (talk) 14:06, 21 April 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Orphaned non-free media (Image:Smeg-Logo.png)

Thanks for uploading Image:Smeg-Logo.png. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BJBot (talk) 12:20, 8 April 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Image copyright problem with Image:Dictionary-selection.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:Dictionary-selection.jpg. You've indicated that the image is being used under a claim of fair use, but you have not provided an adequate explanation for why it meets Wikipedia's requirements for such images. In particular, for each page the image is used on, the image must have an explanation linking to that page which explains why it needs to be used on that page. Can you please check

  • That there is a non-free use rationale on the image's description page for each article the image is used in.
  • That every article it is used on is linked to from its description page.

This is an automated notice by FairuseBot. For assistance on the image use policy, see Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. --00:33, 24 May 2008 (UTC)
