Colne Engaine is a village in Essex situated just north of the River Colne from the larger village of Earls Colne. The village takes its name from the river, around which it is likely that the earliest settlements were made, and the Engaine family, who were the principal family of the village between 1279 to 1367. Previously the village had been known as Little Colne, and is one of four villages named after the river (the others being Earls Colne, Wakes Colne and White Colne).

[edit] Colne Engaine Football Club

Colne Engaine F.C. nicknamed 'The Engines' is Colne Engaine's local football club, founded in 1921.

In 2003 the club folded due to lack of interest, however with the help of the parish council and former club members, a group of local players reformed the club in 2005, repairing the changing rooms and moving to local community pitch, Burches Meadow.

The team was previously in division one of the Colchester and East Essex Football League but were recently relegated to division two.

[edit] The Colne Engaine Village Shop

In 2003 the local village shop was closed down due to its owner being unable to run the shop anymore, however during March 2007 the shop was reopened by Richard Jones and his wife Wendy Jones, the shop is now serving the community well and sell many things ranging from fresh bread from the local bakers in Halstead to daily newspapers and magazines.
