"can you supply me with the page number? do you also have a reference for krcedin? thx!"

No, problem: Dr. Dušan J. Popović, Srbi u Vojvodini, knjiga 1, Novi Sad, 1990, pages 110-114 contain a list of all settlements in Vojvodina that were inhabited by Serbs during Ottoman rule and both, Beška and Krčedin are on that list, so it is incorrect that we say for these places that they "now" have Serb majority because that is not anything new. My library does not carry that book, can you tell me, if it says anything about when exactly Krcedin was founded? I'm not into sorting people into ethnicities, that's why I routinely write "now". I believe the population in Krcedin thought of themselves chiefly as "peasants" at least until the mid 1850s, not as Serbs or Germans or Roma. Fossa?! 23:21, 8 June 2007 (UTC)
Info when Beška was mentioned I translated from article on Serbian Wikipedia (I used D.J. Popović mainly for info about Serb inhabitants of the village during Ottoman rule). As, for Krčedin, article on Serbian Wikipedia does not say when it was founded or first mentioned, but it certainly existed during Ottoman rule because D.J. Popović mention it in his book. Regarding question what was ethnicity of the people in the past, maybe there were no early population censuses that could describe ethnicity of the citizens, but there are data about their language, religion and personal names, which can clearly indicate who belonged to which ethnicity. Problem with word "now" is that it present POV of certain people (I do not say that you purposelly wrotte such POV) which accuse Serbs for change of demographical structure of the region since 1918, but in the same time, such POV ommit the fact that exactly Serbs were main victims of the change of demographical structure of the region before 1918. Serbs are present in most of their settlements in Vojvodina for many centuries and (unless we speak about some places that were founded in the 18th or 19th century and that were initially inhabited by Germans or Hungarians), we cannot use word "now" to describe Serb presence in these settlements.
