Bassam Abdel Majeed

Major General Bassam Abdel Majeed (Arabic: بسام عبد المجيد transliteration: Basām `Abd al-Majīd) (born 1950) is the current interior minister of Syria. He was appointed on February 11, 2006.
Abdel Majeed was born in 1950 in Bi'r al `Ajam, a town in Quneitra Governorate. He attended Syria's Air Force Academy, graduating in 1970. He was commander of the military police from 2003 to 2006.
He is married, and has two daughters and one son.
