Aptenia or "Red Apple Groundcover" is a small genus of succulent plants in the family Aizoaceae endemic to South Africa. There are two species. One, Aptenia cordifolia, is a common garden ground cover and an introduced species on other continents.
It is extremely drought-resistant, and grows profusely. Is covered with bright pink flowers most of the year in mild climates. Does not get woody, and can be trimmed back any time of year without damaging the plant. Can withstand summer temperatures over 100 degrees, but not frost or freeze.[citation needed]
