- August 15 = MGM/UA Home Video announces that The Wizard of Oz is celebrating its 50th Anniversary in a Special Collector's Edition. The video cassette features a $5.00 mail-in rebate with purchases of Downy Fabric Softeners. The best-loved motion picture is backed by an $8.5 million promotional campaign.
